Free Winnie the Pooh Hat Pattern – newborn size

I’m sharing with you the first hat pattern I’ve created. I’m hoping to be able to create some more in the future. If you like ‘hunny’ as much as this guy does, you’ll love this hat!

The size is newborn, and my baby is six weeks old, and it fits him nicely. I haven’t worked up any other sizes, but feel free to change the size to fit whatever age you’re making it for. The ear flaps are also made as you go, not added afterward. If you don’t want the earflaps, continue with the hdc, and don’t add the trc.

Abbreviations used:
ch – chain
hdc – half double crochet
trc – treble crochet, or triple crochet
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet

Start by making a magic ring in your main colour (yellow)
Row 1 – ch2, 8hdc, join in first hdc
Row 2 – ch2, 2hdc in each hdc (16 hdc total), join to first hdc
Row 3 – ch2, 2hdc in first hdc, 2 hdc, 2hdc in next, 2hdc, continue until end (24 total) job to first
Continue this way, increasing by 8hdc each time until you get to row 7 (56hdc)
Row 8 – 56hdc around
Row 9 – 13hdc, 1trc, 28hdc, 1trc, 13hdc
Row 10 – 12hdc, 3trc, 26hdc, 3trc, 12hdc
Row 11 – 11hdc, 5trc, 24hdc, 5trc, 11hdc
Continue adding trc u Tim you reach row 14 – 8hdc, 11trc, 18hdc, 11trc, 8hdc
Row 15 – repeat row 14 and switch to red
Edging – 8sc, 11dc, 18sc, 11dc, 8sc

Ears (make 4)
Slip knot, ch4, join to first ch, ch1
6sc in centre ring, John to first sc, ch1
2sc in each sc (12sc), join to first sc, ch1
2sc in first sc, 1sc in the next, repeat until end (18 sc), join to first so, and bind off

Slip knot, ch4, join to first ch, ch1
Continue as you did with the ears, but make 1 more round, and have 24 sc in total
Add two additional rows of 24 sc (6 rows total)

Sew the two backs of the ears together and attach to the side of the head. Embroider a black circle onto the muzzle, and then sew the muzzle onto the hat. Add two eyes, and eyebrows, if you wish. If you put the eyebrows too close to the eyes, Pooh will look angry.

Finally, add a smile below the muzzle.

I made a full newborn set (hat, diaper cover, and booties). When my little man wakes up later, I’ll take some shots of him in the set, and I’ll post the links for the booties and the cover so you can make them, as the patterns do not belong to me.

This is another posting done on my iPad, and if anything doesn’t make sense, please let me know. I don’t catch all of the autocorrects right away, and it’s not enjoying my crochet shorthand.
